To be fair, I think the technology is certainly coming of age. I can remember talking about it with various huge nightclub chains a good three years ago. It just wasn’t mission-critical enough to be able to send out a coupon to 10,000 clubbers and reliably scan it.
If it’s actually work-able, then I can see quite a few cool applications for it.
