China makes good on promise to cut out SMS abuse

Cellphone operator China Mobile has canceled services for 19,000 subscribers in a southern city for using text messages for fraudulent or criminal purposes, state media said on Tuesday.

Abuses such as sending messages designed to get people to give out their financial information or remit money have been a popular tool to cheat mobile phone users nationwide, the China Daily reported.
