Tex2me.com launches to rival Hotxt
Link: ‘Free’ txts a go go | The Register.
Like Hotxt, Tex2 uses a mobile phone’s data connection to send messages to others in the Tex2 community by using software downloaded onto the handset. But unlike Hotxt, Tex2 doesn’t charge £1 a week for its service, although SMS messages are subject to network data charges, typically, just a fraction of a penny.
Check them out at www.tex2me.com. I’m downloading it as I type…
i completely screwed up the installation. I seem to have a habit of doing this. I didn’t quite read the instructions at the start so that when it came to enter my mobile number… well it wouldn’t let me put in the whole number. I’ll delete and re-install. Meantime my username will be Ewan MacLeod on it.
(I’m ewanm on Hotxt.)
UPDATE: No it wasn’t me. I think it must be my Sony Ericsson W550i … It won’t let me put in my full mobile to register.
And again: It’s fixed thanks to Stuart :D

Ewan,
If you haven’t done so already, send your email address to us via info@tex2me.com
We have a work-round we’ll be happy to apply to your phone and we’ll let you have it by return.
Best regards
Stuart

HOTXT is a great idea, but please do not compare SMS to VoIP. What HOTXT needs to come up with are additional features apart from longer SMS messages and lower prices. What about convenient SMS to email and blogs or to social network boards like http://www.bebo.com/ on the young end or http://www.academici.com on the upped end?
Why? Because social networks and blogs are increasingly becoming an integrated part of communication for HOTXT target group.
Imagine an SMS straight to your blog like “Going to the pub ‘XYZ’ at 8pm? Who is coming along” on your blog, which will be read instantly by all interested friends…

messages to any email address or blog.
Check it out Klaas.
There are now quite a few companies in that same field. The oldest being Juvino, but as somebody said before me Hotxt can make a big splash simply due to the cash they probably have.
