Vodafone has declined to comment on weekend press reports that it is flogging its 45 per cent stake in US cellco Verizon Wireless.

I tell you, I remember the days when Vodafone was a force to be reckoned with. I remember when the could blow billions on mobile portals (’Vizzavi’ anyone?) in the blink of an eye. And now… selling out their US stake? Geez. Has it come to this?

Screw up in Japan. Screw up in America. So soon it’ll be relegated to a description in the regions of ‘A large European mobile company, with a few operations in other countries too’.

I used to draw real strength from the Vodafone brand.

But, as the bald kid says in The Matrix, There Is No Spoon.
