How many BT Engineers does it take to connect a phone line?

Further to my recent blog about the state of the Uk’s broadband service outwith the major metropolitan centres, here’s a breakdown of just how difficult it is to get a phone line installed in a new apartment here in the UK.
First someone called Brian comes round to ’survey’ the site. Brian has to work out what work is involved. This takes Brian 5 minutes. But that’s one day’s work you see. And Brian doesn’t work Fridays. So we have to wait for Monday.
It shouldn’t be too long now that Tom was able to get a dialtone — the exchange just has to be configured for broadband, line tested etc., and he’ll be connected.

You can’t rush these things.
Posted by Chief on June 24th, 2006 at 3:20 pm.I had BT install ADSL for me once on a new line. 2 weeks later it mysteriously disappeared. Turns out my line couldn’t support 2Mb ADSL - even though it had been running fine for the previous two weeks.
Took another month to get the service downgraded to 1Mb, as it was a ‘new install’ even though BT were the ones who had cancelled the original as it was installed ‘by mistake’. I never did figure out the logic behind that one.
