Tracking Stuff in Mobile

Daily news and opinion for 250,000 industry executives and mobile fanatics.

I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours

For a while now I’ve been thinking of doing some Q&As with folk in the mobile community around the world. Now and again I’ve grabbed someone and asked them to give me a 2-3 line ‘what’s hot in mobile’ comment.. but really, I want it a little more structured.

I would, for instance, like to know what handset Arun Sarin uses. What’s more, I’d like to know what mobile services (if any) he uses and whether he’s ever moblogged. I suppose Vodafone’s a bad example: have a look here at their press contacts page:

Please be aware that the following contact details are for Media and Industry Analyst queries only. All general enquiries about Vodafone should be made through the central switchboard:
Tel: +44 (0) 1635 33251

I seriously wonder what would happen if I phoned their switchboard and asked. I’ll try tomorrow perhaps.

I think it would be interesting to collar folk running a mobile-related companies and find out what devices, services and stuff they rate. Properly, in a structured way. At the same time I’d like to see some sort of who’s who in the mobile industry. I’ve been playing with that directory software I got but it’s far too complex for what I need. It’s an awful arse trying to find people to do business with at times. It’s all very well finding a company but actually getting through to the right person who *actually* cares about what they’re doing — that’s challenging.

I’ve been running it over in my mind for a while. I’ll get there shortly.

Meantime, to whoever’s reading: If you fancy doing a Question & Answer session via email or instant messenger that I can then re-publish here, post a comment or drop me a mail - ewan@smstextnews.com. The only requirement: You have to do something with mobile.

  • If you called Vodafone the most likely response you would get would be ‘please write us a letter’…
