Laptops without PCMCIA ports
Following on from the post I made this weekend about people who’ve got themselves brand new laptops that don’t have a PCMCIA port for 3g data cards, Rachel sent me details on this product release from a few years ago:
It’s a 3G FOMA compact flash card — fits directly into a compact flash slot.
I wonder if you could get a USB compact flash reader and then plug this in? Heh. Probably *NOT*. Useful for PocketPCs or anything that has a compact flash capability.
Thanks for pointing this one our Rachel.

I thought of this because - The only Dell Laptop I know of (Lattitude X1) that does not have a PCMCIA slot, has a Compact Flash slot.

They’ll need to release an ExpressCard version over here before I upgrade my powerbook to a macbook though!
Posted by Dan Lane on August 3rd, 2006 at 9:12 pm.I am from Spain , and I just bought a SAMSUNG Q30 and it doesn´t have a pcmcia slot, It only have some USB and a compact flash slot, so I am not be able to use my 3g pcmcia card, I am trying to find the nett docomo foma card, but it is quite difficuklt to do it. Do you know if exist any other solution to it….. I found an USB adapter for PCMCIA but i think it is not a good solution, because having a 12″ laptop and have to travel with an external adapter, an external dvd , there is to much external …. and finally the almost 1kg for the laptop gets you to 3kg…. So I am trying to optime the compact flash slot for the 3G card ( chip)
