SMSWhois.co.uk checks domain availability by text
Funky service, particularly for the new media people amongst us here in the UK. If, like me, you come up with company names whilst you’re sat munching on Doughballs at Pizza Express, then SMSWhois.co.uk is a service to remember.
Instead of painfully having to wait ’til you get to the computer to see if anyone has actually registered that domain name, you can make an enquiry by text and get a result right-away. It’s revenue generating — that is, it’ll cost you £0.25 per enquiry (plus the cost of a standard text). Really, really useful when you need to know.
Here’s how it works: Simply text DOMAIN yourdomain.com to 83252.
It’s only available in the UK at the moment — I’m not quite sure what kinds of domains you can query but I’m assuming it’s the usual lot — .com, .net, .org, .co.uk.

Re: which domains it will handle, I’ve put a list online at http://www.smswhois.co.uk/whoislist.html
Hope that helps! Alex
