Textanonymous lets you send anonymous texts

Picture_5_14For £1.50 (plus the cost of a standard rate text), you can get a unique keycode.

That keycode will then let you send an anonymous message via the Textanonymous.com site.  However it doesn’t need to be anonymous — because most UK gateways allow you to set both the originator and the destination fields on a text message, you can make your text message appear to come from someone else’s phone.

This kind of spoofing isn’t new — however TextAnonymous.com have given it a nice and simple front end for mischievous minds.

I can think of at least 100 different ways in which this can be used to bring hilarity … depending on your point of view.  Heh.   Use it sparingly though — all messages sent via the site are logged and of course the terms and conditions make it clear that it’s YOU not TextAnonymous.com sending the message.  So not a good idea to text your mate’s boss with a declaration of undying love and set the originator as your mate’s phone number.

:D

  • Send Anonymous Texts in the UK

I saw this over on SMS Text News this morning. A new UK company has set up a service that allows people to send anonymous text messages via a website. The service takes advantage of the ability to set…

  • Awsome stuff indeed ;)
Of course, this could also be used for good purposes like sending a message from a company / business name to add that extra touch of class.

It is indeed refreshingly simply compared to the other services out there :)

  • This site is great for one good reason: it is truely anonymous. Apart from your own mobile number and the recipient, they don’t ask you to sign up, want your email address, age, postcode, inside leg measurements, or any of the other stuff half of these sites usually ask for! I’m always wary about giving away my personal details, so nice to see someone on the other side thinks the same way!

  • And others can do the same, but you can specify the recipient … http://www.anonymoustxt.com

  • Way to copy there! ;) lol

The “send from number” was removed as it has some serious legal issues including identity issues. :)

  • Personally I feel £1.50 is a little extortionate to pay for an anonymous SMS, when websites like hoaxmail are doing it for around 30% of the price…

  • At the end of the day most SMS providers worth their salt will let you set the from number to be something else (subject to the usual T&Cs of course, one of which is usually ‘nothing illegal, fraudulent or pretending to be someone you’re not’.

That text will be costing them lets say 6p. Payout on a £1.50 is lets say 90p. 84p easy profit, not bad.

How much does Hoaxmail cost? I can’t find any details of their pricing on their website..

You need to login and then click on ‘purchase’ down the right. I’ve found their rates to be pretty competitive and if you buy their largest package it works out at around 15p a text.

  • 15p ain’t bad, but having to sign up for an account before finding out how much it costs is a bit of a downer.

  • Sneaksms.com offers a much improved service at a fraction of the cost, and also includes many other sms features letting you send wap files, images, mp3 etc

  • Can you trace who these anonymous messages are coming from cause I’ve gotten a few that haven’t been very nice, and I really want to know who they are coming from. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s my ex-boyfriend, but no proof.

  • CloakText (www.cloaktext.co.uk) is a new service, which lets you send anonymous texts straight from your phone (no signup, no need to be sat on the Net). I think it’s unique in that respect, is very easy to use, and costs only £1.00 per text. Check it out!

  • Why on earth would you pay £1.50 for it? i have been using the free anonymous sms at http://phreakyphonez.net/web/webforum - sure you have to make a few posts to get access to it but once you have access it is unlimited and 100% and 100% anonymous

  • CloakText (www.cloaktext.co.uk) is unique and different from all the above, as it’s the only one you can use straight from your phone anytime, anywhere. It’s also plugged directly into the UK’s mobile network, so delivery of texts is as guaranteed as it can be (which is not the case for international ‘free’ routes).

  • Hi,
Why would you pay 1.5 quid for a text. Lazme.co.uk allows you to send anonymous messages for 20p from inside their website, once you have registered. And you can also choose when you want the message to be delivered.
Interestingly you may also want to receive sms replies when you send a message anonymously. This is possible from lazme.co.uk as well.
Basically they give you a mobile alias and you can send and receive messages using that alias. The speed of message delivery is instantaneous and a pretty reliable service.

  • Not really new tech when http://www.sharpmail.co.uk have been providing such a anonymous email service for over 9 years and Anonymous SMS service for over 4 years, they also have a replyable SMS service operated by a real accountable UK limited company. I would not hand over my anonaminity to any Sole Trader, heven knows what they will do with my data.
