Epsom General Hospital launches text reminders

I think this is the first example of a UK hospital actually implementing SMS reminders on a regular basis. I can’t remember reading about another hospital doing this… Are Epsom first? Either way, brilliant — about time!

Epsom General Hospital is turning to text messaging to prevent millions of pounds being wasted on missed appointments each year.

Patients are now being sent an automatic SMS text as a reminder to attend appointments and to follow their treatment.

Last year there were 52,162 missed appointments across Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. Each one cost the trust up to £120.

  • Hurrah!!!! Hurrah!!!! Hurrah!!!!

We’ve all in the mobile industry only been talking about the “imagine if you could get hospital and doctor appointment reminders” idea for 3 or 4 years! It’s become such a joke now as being one of those ideas that is so blindingly obvious but never ever created.

at last!!! we can all let out that long held breath now!!

I raise my glass to Epsom General - true pioneers!!
