I was doing a little searching this morning and came across some pages that claim MXit.co.za, the mobile instant messenger service in South Africa, has over 500,000 users. That was published in March of this year.
Another post reports MXit is adding 10,000 new users a day.
Then I found another one on the site from June – much more recent – reporting MXit had exceeded 1 million users. I couldn’t find anything on the MXit.co.za site to at least verify this though.
If this is accurate, I think it’ll most probably puts them in the vicinity of the world’s most popular mobile IM service — or puts them squarely as number one.
