Sky By Mobile: Remote Sky+ recording

I’ve been using this for a little while now. It’s a little java applet that runs on your phone and provides you with news, entertainment updates, programme gossip and of course, an electronic programme guide (EPG).

However, if you’ve enabled your phone to work with your Sky+(Tivo-style) system, you can browse the EPG and select any programmes that you’d like recorded.

The applet then routes that request from your mobile via the satellite feed to your Sky+ box at home and sets up the record plan.

So, when you’re next sat in a meeting and someone says ‘oh, are you going to watch [something] tonight?’ reminding you of a really cool programme you’d like to see? No biggie. It’s especially no biggie if you’re going out that night. Or off at the gym. Just whip out your mobile, flick up the Sky applet, browse to the programme on the EPG, hit ‘record’ and you’re done.

It’s also a rather wicked parlour trick to impress friends or family:
‘I shall now command the Sky+ box to record that show… aaaaand … tah dah’.

This is one of the most useful and most valuable mobile addition to a service I have seen in a long time. Well done Sky. It absolutely 100% rocks.

One Response to “Sky By Mobile: Remote Sky+ recording”

  • Agreed, this rocks. I will now set it up to record on 17th March 2007 at 17.30 the whole match where Wales kick England’s ass in rugby.

Would be great though if we could get a search option to find something from last night that you had not recorded or to find the most popular = the ‘most recorded’ programmes.

I can see a community gig arising from this. Imagine being in the pub and finding out what is the hottest recording that evening or even being able to get a copy of yesterdays hot programme.

    Speak to you soon Ewan
