Sky Mobile - Sky+ recording: Top, top application

I’ve been using Sky’s mobile application for quite a while now. Time for a reflective viewpoint, I reckon.

Sky Mobile is one of the best services I’ve ever used on my handset. It really does fix a real, existing problem — being out when you suddenly want to record something on TV.

I was sat in the car garage last Saturday night admiring Range Rover Sports when I saw the TV on in the corner. It was showing BBC Athletics. Which reminded me that the Football Premiership started once again on Saturday. I had forgotten to set Match of the Day to record.

So I flipped out the phone, brought up Sky Mobile and browsed through the electronic programme guide.

It’s nigh on an orgasmic experience. Not quite. But nearly there.

It works brilliantly.

Quite often, applications like this are over engineered. Or under engineered. They don’t quite work. They’re almost useful. Essentially there’s usually a flaw in the plan, somewhere along the way, that you can solve temporarily with a bit of smart marketing.

Not so with Sky Mobile. You put it on your phone, connect it to your Sky+ account, and you’re done. That’s it. You can record stuff via your handset.

Pure genius.

  • If only it worked properly on my N80.. there is an unofficial way of installing it, but last I heard from Sky they haven’t got an official version yet.
