Apple iPhone would flop says know nothing survey

Link: Mobile Digest: Apple iPhone would flop, UK survey suggests.
Standby for some total rubbash:

Over-45s were the most reticent about using a combined gadget, whereas most teenagers - whilst open to using an integrated machine, would rather use a phone that played music than a phone-enabled MP3 player.

There is a big difference between an iPhone and an iPod Phone.

Bringing out an iPod that has a phone in it = stupid.

Bringing out a phone that does music a la iPod = smart.

This is clearly a survey written by neanderthals — as the Mobile Digest editorial goes on to point out (in a less direct way!)

I wonder who commissioned the survey. It’s gotta be some think tank or know nothing group of people who don’t seem to understand what’s happening in the marketplace.

The following logic is correct: An iPod is useful, but not critical.

If I go out without my iPod, I do not feel naked and disconnected. Whereas if I go out without my phone… well, simply, I can’t. I don’t. I couldn’t ‘go to work’ and not take my phone with me. It’d be an arse of a day.

Ergo iPod is optional.

If you flood the market with good looking, smart, capable and reasonably well designed Sony Ericsson handsets (for example) that make it really easy to use as a mobile music player… the iPod is quickly shelved.

Holes all over that survey. Still, useful for getting my heart pumping with semi outrage.
