Changing my message alert tone

Well yesterday I was sat in a board room conducting a meeting. I’d rushed to the meeting after the train and then the tube had delayed me. It was quite a walk from the tube station so I arrived sweating and late.

They were very gracious. I got time to catch my breath then we began the meeting. BUT I’d forgotten to switch my handset to silent mode.

So…. about half an hour into the meeting, while we were all paused for thought — and thus, the board room was entirely silent — Hugh Grant could be heard yelling “OHHH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU**” from my laptop bag.

I happen to think it’s really quite funny — when I’m alone or with friends. I was mortified. Luckily, the four people didn’t take offence,… or appear to take offence! Phew.

Ergo I think it’s time I changed my message notification.

Now, on my blackberry, whenever I get a PIN, I have a sonar ping sound — and I think that’s brilliant. I’m loving that. However, I am seeking your suggestions as to what noise, quote or sound I should set for my text message notification.

Some ideas I’ve had:

- Homer Simpson. You can’t go wrong with a ‘AHHHHH’ or a ‘DOH’
- Something from the A Team. ‘I pity the fool?’
- Wall Street Opening Bell?
- “Lunch is for wimps” from Wall Street
- “You’re going to need a bigger boat” from Jaws

What do you think?

  • I once changed a pal’s ringtone to ‘Its raining men’ while he passed out on the sofa…

He’s 6ft 4 and built like a brick shit house and was a prison officer at the time. I waited til he was on the way to work via a train to london the next day and called him.

Of course he didn’t realise that it was his mobile at first until I rang a second time…

‘You Bastard’ was the answer to me laughing down the phone at him…..

  • I use the, ‘There is a message for you’ tone. It works if the tone is professional. Now you can also create your tone by downloading a paid software at http://www.tuneusin.com for your BlackBerry.

Sometimes I also use the ‘I got mail! Yay!’ tone. But that’s only when my profile is Loud.
