DO YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE???
Just got it in from eBay. I felt a strange requirement to have one.
I have Phonobia. It’s an occasional obsessive desire to ponce about with wickedly cool technology.
I felt that I should, once again, have the old CMD-Z5. It was a BRILLIANT handset. Really small, smartly designed, on-board answer phone… it was one of the best handsets I’ve ever owned.
I’ve been using it today and I’m going to use it over the weekend to see how I get on. And whether I can cope without pretty colours and a 2 megapixel camera.
This is the best phone ever! I remember getting mine, the scrolling menu, the on board answering machine, and the amazing jog dial! Phantastic phone!
I was looking at these on ebay a few months back. I bet you can guess what address I am typing into my browser now. 😉

i agree with you dave. tis really a fantastic phone. i got mine from my dad and mum who couldnt use it. but they now confess that the phone is fantastic when i unveiled the answering machine which i tested on a friend.
am now exploring the browser.

superb phone – and my current main phone
why? Built in answering machine in such a compact package
only one in the world even today
very very useful when using foreign SIMS (I travel a lot) in countries that don’t have voicemail… freaks out the locals 🙂
My first and best phone, ever!! Got it in 2000 and totally loved it…. Some loser stole it! Didnt buy another phone since…
The jog dial… the games…. Awesome.
Actually mine got run over by a car, and the jog dial didnt work right, but I never would have given that phone up.
I was so thrilled I even added z5 to my email id! (L)
Huge fan :))
Dose the phone work in the USA?? I was just wondering because i need a cheap phone to take with me when i go travling that is also a great phone that will not be nicked!
The phone is magic… I got it when it first came out and I still have and use it. It’s a bit slow typing an sms and you can only do one page but to be honest that is actually a bonus… it means I get time to think about what i’m typing and I can’t be too verbose… saves a fortune and no embarrassing mistakes 🙂 Now all I need is a couple of spare batteries (yes i’m still using the original battery !!! )
I upgraded to a Z5 in 2001, I have never looked back, the jog dial is light years ahead of the stupid navigation keys on all other phones, Sony must have had a brain seizure to have not have carried the concept forward.
I have only had one replacement Battery Pack to date, although the replacement is not as good as the Sony product it works but requires a more frequent top up charge, I would not part with this super cool phone.
