.mobi Auctions - top domains sold to Domain King reseller?
Link: .mobi Auctions Raise More Questions Than They Answer at MobHappy
Carlo asks a key question: Was the chap who bought the $200k and $100k .mobi domains the Domain King? If so, where does that leave dotMobi? The post, linked above, is well worth a read.
They’ve even got a nice quote from the guy that bought flowers.mobi, saying his company “looks forward to launching the world’s first mobile site for flowers and becoming a dominant force in this new space.†His name? Rick Schwartz.
I’m sure this is just a coincidence, but “Rick Schwartz†also happens to be the name of a guy who anointed himself the “Domain King†several years ago, and made $20 million reselling domain names, including $1.32 million on men.com.
Events, dear boy. Events.

Same person. The Rick Schwartz who organizes the TRAFFIC conferences is also known as the “Domain King”.

What a very silly man! If I want to buy flowers while out and about I will surf to http://www.interflora.com. If Interflora have got a bean of sense they will make sure that the site works on my mobile device. They will do that by going out and buying a book from Waterstones called “re-designing your website for the mobile world”. They will employ a web developer (perhaps one from iTAGG the mobile consultancy
who has experience of xhtml and any other technologies needed. He will write browser and device sniffing code. And then he will make it all work from the same domain name. The Interflora marketing department will spend their marketing dollars on telling the world that they can now buy flowers from their mobile phone. They will not need to spend a penny explaining to the man in the street why he has to use different domain names when using the site in different places. The customers can place the order on their mobile phone. They can then go home and logon to the same website and review their account and print off the invoice, etc.
repeat after me “using a .mobi is not necessary”.
Sorry to rant on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about this but for heavens sake, seeing stories like this Domain King one make me want to screeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmm…
deep breath in…..deep breath out….ok you are now ready for your day…

Posted by steve procter on November 1st, 2006 at 10:00 am.Rick Schwartz knows whats he is doing. Anyone who doesnt see that people will be swiping credit cards on .mobis that are two word and three words mobis and ordering products on their cell phone need to look at the future. So if Rick buys flowers.com and buyflowers.mobi he will be sitting on all the 1.6 billion cell phones mobi traffic on their cell phones starting in 2008. If you want some premium domains check out http://www.seochampion.com
