Yahoo! Go! on! the! Nokia! N73!

There’s a big fat Yahoo Go button on my new Nokia N73. Remember Nokia and Yahoo did a deal a while ago to pre-load Yahoo Go on their handsets? Well this is the first one of those I’ve got.

I took a look around. It’s still very much similar to what I recall on the N90. I really don’t like the way they handle news. When you run the Yahoo Go application, there’s a wickedly nice news icon there in the menu. Click it and you get a list of headline options — ‘Entertainment’ for example. Click on Entertainment ……….. and what happens? Well, it loads the phone’s web browser and then the Yahoo News entertainment headlines.

How disappointing. I was expecting it to RSS the news down to the Yahoo Go application. It’s a total cop out to send people to their mobile web browser when they’ve specifically clicked to open the Yahoo Go service.

Anyway I’m umming and ahhing about hooking it all up with my Yahoo username so that it’ll do the integrated thing with the address book, calendar and whatnot.

Wotcha reckon? I’ll give it a go. Better back everything up here on the Apple though.

(As for this post headline: I had to copy The Register’s habit of sticking an exclamation point after every word in the title for anything to! do! with! Yahoo!)

  • Erm, where’s the Yahoo button? (I don’t see it in your photo…)

  • Carlo, sorry, I meant a virtual button.

It’s slap bang in the centre of the default menu on the main Nokia screen.

The options on the main screen are:

Address Book, New Message, Yahoo Go, Music Player, Internet & Movies/Images

    Pretty good real estate positioning!

  • Hey dude,

I’ve used Yahoo Go for ages - but only for my mail. The way it synchronises my Yahoo contacts/calendar/mailboxes is brilliant and its an application that I probably couldnt live without!

I only really recommend it though to those people that have Yahoo email accounts otherwise I can’t really see the point in it.

The sync function is good -
I sync my phone’s contacts/appointments etc with outlook.. Yahoo Go then syncs that with your Yahoo Calender/Address book.

The only thing I keep turned off is the photo upload thingy - the data charges would be far too much!

  • Sandeep — I wouldn’t worry if it’s not preinstalled on your device — you can easily get it from Yahoo!

  • Hey dudes - just seen your woes on hunting down Yahoo Go!

    I too suffered these woes.
I don’t think Yahoo have it on their site due to their agreement with 3.
BUT - it is available by going here:

  • WARNING GUYS AND GALS - Yahoo Go! 2.0 doesn’t support the marvellous integrated mail as far as i can tell. The other features are probably better, but I found it invaluable receiving my emails in my handsets inbox. Has anyone got the old software so i can fix my phone?

  • Yahoo Go 2.0 doesn’t sync up with the Calendar in the N73 anymore. Absolute rubbish - that was the best thing about it - 2 way syncing….

  • Guys:

    Yahoo Go 2.0 sucks.

Click on the link that I posted previously to get the old (native Symbian) variant of Yahoo 1.0.
