A Vodafone in every home?

Ok, so it’s not quite a Vodafone network, but a picocell we’re talking about. Alex caught this one on The Register —

O2 trial could see a picocell in every home | The Register

O2 is to trial picocell technology which, in theory, could see every Be customer doubling up as a VoIP access point from the comfort of their own home.

Interesting. Interesting. I wonder…

  • oh yeah, I’ve only just got that myself!!

could be a very cool idea. Would be great for down in the basement of Adam Street club where non of us can use our mobiles for lack of a real signal.

  • I’m not sure you’d need an entire picocell to get a signal in the basement (I had the same problem during a lunch meeting in the basement at Yauatcha on Tuesday).

For basement signals you could use something as basic as a leaky feeder.

Where this picocell technology comes into play is by making calls and mobile data cheaper for the end user (although will probably be used to make things cheaper for the network provider at the same cost to the end user).

I personally can’t wait to get one and play with it because it sounds totally insecure!.

Oh alright, I only made this comment because I love the term “Leaky Feeder”.
