My T-Mobile nailed in Geneva

Well both my T-Mobile accounts are up the spout. How annoying is that? I made the mistake of assuming (makes an ASS out of U and ME… well.. me) that since I had international roaming on both accounts, all would be fine. I reckon it’s been switched off.

Do you remember when I swapped things around? Moved blackberry service from one account to the other and added Web ‘N Walk to my second account (etc, etc)? Well, I reckon at that point, something must have mucked up. Excruciating.

My fault though. Should have called and checked, right? Now, for some stupid arcane reason I can’t get it enabled when I’m out of the country. Why the hell we still have to deal with these stupid rules, I don’t know. That’s a good amount of lost revenue from me — because I failed. I forgot to check I could give T-Mobile 4-5 times the cash I normally would to use my handset. And now they don’t get the revenue.

Sheesh. You think this sort of thing would have been sorted a long time ago with something as simple as a text message:

We noticed you’re abroad Mr MacLeod. Would you like to enable international roaming @ £0.55/min? Or shall we keep your handset locked? Reply YES to enable and apply a £50 holding deposit to your account.

You know, something like that. You live and learn.

It’s the first thing I say to any non-geeky mobile person who’s going abroad: Is your phone enabled for international roaming? Call up! Find out! Humbled by not using my own advice!

Anyway. Saving grace? Well, two saving graces:

1. My Three handset is working perfectly fine. No concerns, no issues, no problems. Good work.

2. I am not blowing 55p a minute on getting incoming calls (let alone making any). I am also not tempted to overdose on the 7.50/mb data rate.

While I’m at it, I was hunting for something to eat earlier — took a walk round the block and found a Dominos Pizza. Ah hah! Walked in and tried to order. “Nes pas something something TELEFONO!!” exclaimed the guy serving. Something like that. With gestures and mimes I worked out that they didn’t want to take my order face to face. No idea why not. So I went back to the hotel, ordered it online via dominos.ch and the pizza arrived in 30 minutes. 11pm in Geneva and all is well.
