Am I reading this right? Have a look at the table here. If I’m in Switzerland (will be tomorrow), it’ll cost me £0.40 to send a text message back to the UK.

I can send a picture message back to the UK for £0.20.

You what?

Is this T-Mobile trying to encourage the use of picture messaging over text? If so, good news.

Or is it T-Mobile hammering us because we’re more likely to text rather than send a picture message?

Teach T-Mobile a lesson and use a low cost online service like http://www.txtlocal.com where it costs less than 8p per SMS anywhere in the world!
I guess you do need access to the internet though to use it, but as I spend most of my day in front of a PC I rarely text with my phone these days anyway.

yes my colleague Mark has being “taking advantage” of this phenomena for over 12 months now, from countries as far afield as Russia!!

interesting how it’s been around for so long but hardly anyone knows about it!

T-mobile are the only operators offering internationally acceptable MMS charges – for a lot of the bands that moblog at moblogUK I recommend they use Tmobile sims, load them up with credit, then head of on tour wherever they’re going to keep posting charges to a minimum – Bloc Party are doing this on their US tour at the moment (Matt, the drummer has suffered a collapsed lung incidentally, so some tour dates have been cancelled – he’s ok.).
