What better way to book your flight to Nokia World? By mobile with ShopQwik!
So I am off to Nokia World 2006 in Amsterdam this week. I had a lot of scheduling issues but that has been resolved so I’m delighted to be going:
From the Nokia World site:
You are warmly welcome to join us in Amsterdam this November at Nokia World, one of the world’s premier forums for the mobility industry. Nokia World, formerly called Nokia Mobility Conference, is your chance to explore new products, services and ideas in the mobility field, achieve business goals and find new perspectives, live exciting new experiences and connect to Nokia and other major players in the mobile industry.
It looks like an absolutely wicked event. I shall obviously be live blogging like crazy.
Anyway, I needed to book my flight to Nokia World. What better way to do it, than by mobile phone with ShopQwik, eh?
You know what? I’m willing to bet that out of the thousands of people going to the conference, I am one of the ONLY people to have booked my flight there by mobile.
Mark, MD of ShopQwik, isn’t being creative when he says ‘it takes 90 seconds to book a flight’. I think I had mine ready to press ‘book’ within 60 seconds. I’ve got some screenshots for you too — courtesy of the Nokia E61.
So I’ve just chosen the airline and basic timeslots, and now I’m being asked to select the actual time slots I want. I’ve selected the 1945 flight — that’s why it’s highlighted in green:
Now I’ve selected the time I want to fly out:
On the next screen I choose how many people are flying. Just me for this flight:
On the next screen I’m confirming the total price, including the taxes:

(This, by the way, is exactly the same price as I’d pay if I booked via EasyJet.com)
Scrolling down a bit, there’s a few terms and conditions reminding me that I am *actually* buying a flight… press Continue and that’s me booked!
Very, very cool. I shall be telling the people at Nokia all about me arriving in Amsterdam courtesy of my Nokia E61 and ShopQwik! Do download it and give it a go.

Wow!
I hope I get such a visually appealing and super quick application for booking flights on my mobile in India soon. I can tell from the way things are developing that it’ll take time.
Sad.

Posted by ewan on November 27th, 2006 at 9:53 pm.Hi Siddharth,
At the moment the application has 27 airlines for destinations mainly in Europe and the US, however we are about to bring out a version with over 500 airlines which allows you to book 95% of all bookable seats in the world. This is just about ready to go and will be out in january.
Hotels and car hire are already global with 35,000 hotels available (90,000 by the end of 2007) and 7000 car hire locations.
I use the flight and hotel sections a couple of times a month and its second nature for me now.
Thanks for the interest.
Regards
Mark
