Check this text out:

Well, it’s been an active weekend here on the X-Series blog, with loads of questions and comments, especially around the most recent post by Frank Sixt, HWL’s Group Finance Director. Here Frank answers a couple of comments from that post.

Adrian writes: I just read on SMS Text News about someone who had been extremely enthusiastic about the X-Series being charged £1.35 for an email. How does that fit in?

Frank writes: It doesn’t fit at all and I am looking into it personally. We are of course in early days here and there are bound to be gremlins from time to time but the principles behind the X-Series are very clear and will not be compromised. We will get back to you on this one.

Will you look at that? It definitely is Suits 2.0 over at Three. I’m extremely impressed that Frank and the other ‘Suits’ are, it seems, walking-the-walk.

I’m curious to see how you, dear reader, react to the knowledge that Three appear to have cut through the marketing spin and delivered a blog that does give you access to their top tier management.

SMS Text News reader Adrian sent a note to the blog about my issue with being billed for an email. Head Finance Honcho Frank wrote back to him and published his response on the blog. Encouraging. Extremely encouraging.

I’m minded of Steve’s comment posted here last week when I initially wrote that the X-Series blog rocked.

He commented:

group finance directors should be locked away in rooms containing lots of ring binders and pc’s running nothing but spreadsheets. they are not marketing people and his quotes will go done in the anals of history, mark my words. these are some of the stupidest things a top man from a mobile company could say. utterly ridiculous. am I the only one that sees the stupidity of these statements, words that will surely come back to haunt 3.

(There was actually a lot more, go and have a look at the above link to read his whole piece).

Now I happen to agree with the above perspective. Finance Directors should be locked away, unless, that is, they are actually going to do something useful — in the case of Frank and the team, it certainly looks rather promising. This is the sort of responsibility you want to see from a mobile operator finance chap. You want to see accountability, responsibility, concern — genuine concern.

Can you imagine getting any feedback from the finance chap at Vodafone? Nope. Well, I did once email the Vodafone Press Office to ask what phone Arun Sarin uses. They were unable to help with my enquiry. I kid ye not (click here to read the shocker).

I am particularly enamored with Three at the moment, compared with T-Mobile, my general supplier of choice, not least because, on the phone today, I managed to maintain a conversation with a colleague whilst on the train via my Three handset — an unthinkable achievement with the T-Mobile signal.

The next thing I’m looking at with Three is Melodeo which AB SOL OOOOOOT LEHHHHH ROCKS.
