An Apple A Day
I’m sat having a really nice steak, about a month ago, in Chez Gerard in Covent Garden. If you go on the right day, the service is impeccable, the steaks phenomenal, the fries cooked just right. Pick a wrong day however and it can be truly authentically French 
So, sat enjoying this steak, my friend Tom stops eating, put’s his knife and fork down as he exclaims, ‘Oh, I have to send you this…hold on, is your Bluetooth on?’
I nodded.
He fiddled with his handset and within a few moments, I received a video from him.
‘What is this, Tom?’ I ask.
I think he then commented something like, ‘Well, Ewan, an Apple a day…’
I stopped chewing and ran the video, careful to keep the screen hidden from other diners. Lucky I did.
It featured a girl displaying her talents with a few apples. Think adult. I’ll leave everything else to your imagination. It didn’t offend me — it simply produced a wry smile and I carried on eating.
The problem? The problem came when I was demonstrating the features of the Nokia E61 to some colleagues, only to have one of them ask, ‘Oh, is that a video? Apple-a-day? What is that? Let’s see it………..’ and before I could grab it from them, well, the damage was done.
Cue 10 minutes of profuse explanation, ‘My friend Tom sent it to me, seriously and I just forgot to delete it… and…’
OOooh dear. They finally believed me.
If your friend sends you some potentially rude videos or pictures, be rather more protective of your handset, right?
SIDE NOTE: Notice how Tom, even though he’s a bit of a geek, didn’t EMAIL me the video? He waited until he was in my physical presense and zapped it by Bluetooth.
Reminds me of the teacher in Dundee whose mobile phone got stolen at school. On the phone she had a video of her and her boyfriend ‘getting friendly’, which was hastily posted on YouTube. For about four months my blog got referrals from Google where people were looking for “dundee” “sex” “teacher” “mobile phone”. Why? Because I write about talks I give to teachers, in Dundee on how to use the Mobile Phone. And Tara Hunt thought I had a sexy accent at LesBlogs2.0. Talk about SEO

Posted by Tom on January 3rd, 2007 at 4:36 pm.Your side comment about using Bluetooth reminded me of a question I have been meaning to put to someone who lives in a world where the technology is more advanced than where I am (Queensland, Australia).
Do people use Nokia Sensor? Or something like that is better? The creation of spontaneous social circles is a neat idea, and I used it briefly when I had a 6260 handset, but it seems dreadfully unpopular, at least here.
(Apologies for nudging this discussion off course, in much the same way as a locomotive can nudge a Honda Civic.)
