A spokesman for the broadcaster said: “We cannot confirm any figures and we would caution against extrapolating them because the number of calls varies significantly from week to week.”
However the network has admitted the problem affects the current and last series of the show.
The Mail on Sunday claimed leaked emails showed that the quiz’s premium rate entry line continued to be promoted after a contestant had been selected.
Icstis spokesman Rob Dwight said the regulator would ask to view the evidence that led to the Mail on Sunday article.
It will also talk to Channel 4, production company Cactus TV and Eckoh, the provider of the £1-a-time phone service.
That’s going to be a right arse if they have to refund tens of thousands of people isn’t it?
I’m accustomed — or at least, I was expecting to visit the Eckoh site and see some sort of blog or news article about the issue. Nada. Nothing. They’re either Phone Company 1.0 or the issue is so small and insignificant to them that they’re not bothering publishing a perspective on it.
More likely Eckoh are keeping shtum so as not to jepordise future contacts, not that surprising. If the reports are correct that Cactus knew they’d been given the shortlist before choosing to do the call to action again, even ICSTIS should be able to pin the blame on the right people.
Still, its better than a certain other 5-day a week daytime tv programme which had a live phone in competition every day, even though the programme was pre-recorded 2 days a week….
blimey, everyone’s at it
