Chinese news agencies are apparently making a big thing about China’s citizens sending 14 billion text messages over the next week — in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

That works out to around 30 text messages over eight days for each of the nation’s 460 million cell phone users. But, come on — your basic American teenager will do 30 on the bus ride home from high school.

Come on Kevin ;-) it wasn’t that long ago that your average American couldn’t do anything other than use the address book on their handset!

Mind you, American text traffic has come on leaps and bounds.

I remember once being on the phone to some mobile executives in Canada trying to explain to them about our SMS text to screen service.

“But why would anyone want to text a message to a screen in a nightclub?” they kept asking.

“Trust me. Honestly. Trust me, kids want to do this… right?”

It took a while. We eventually went live and proved the concept in 10 minutes….
