MTN.za launches i-MAIL unified messaging for all mobile users

Link: webitpr | MTN South Africa launches i-MAIL, its new Web Portal-based Unified Messaging service, powered by IP Unity Glenayre

Millions of MTN’s mobile users in South Africa now have greater control of their messaging and mailbox with a web-based management service powered by IP Unity Glenayre, Inc.  The software – i-MAIL – enables users to control their voicemail, faxmail and videomail from one portal, increasing the flexibility and personalisation of messaging services.

I’d love to get access to something like this from my mobile operator. Alas I think this will forever be a glint in the milkman’s eye for UK operators.

Although, saying that, do you remember when o2 (or BT Cellnet) launched GenieOne? Very similar. Not tied to the subscriber’s mobile phone number though :|

I like the concept that it’s web-based too:

As a web-based service, i-MAIL removes the need for subscribers to call their mailbox to receive messages: instead, customers can access their mailbox from anywhere in the world, significantly reducing international roaming charges levied for retrieving messages. With the message forwarding facility, users can arrange for their messages to be pushed to them, wherever they are.

Although I’d also like to see some wickedly nice methods of accessing similar facilities via the handset.

Still, pretty neat.
