o2 to stop screwing it’s customers on mobile data. At some point. You know. Soon. Maybe.

“Yes, there will be a reduction [in rates] for UK customers,” said a spokesman for O2 UK. “We worked with Telefonica [O2’s parent company] last year to bring down voice charges, and we’re working through plans for data charges.”

The spokesman said the reduction would come into effect later this year, although he declined to say exactly when. He also declined to say how much data-roaming charges would fall by. “We’re still working through the details at the moment,” said the spokesman.

Heh.

There is nothing better than sitting next to an o2 customer and asking them about their data charges. They’re all chumps.

Total chumps.

What chump would put up with such charges? Eh?

Ed? 😉

My good friend Ed has been an o2 customer for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time and is frequently enraged by their phenomenally good pricing structure (good for o2). You have to hand it to o2. They’ve got a perfect market strategy. Their idiot customers are content to moan a little bit and still pay 4+ quid a meg.

That’s right Mr Spokesman.. just you continue to ‘explore options’… you know, drag your feet, you’ll get a TON more revenue that your competitors from your stupid customers. o2’s definitely got the make of it’s customers hasn’t it? It knows they’ll moan a bit, and yes, it’s getting a little bit silly now (especially as Vodafone’s muting a semi unlimited plan) so they’ve had to make an announcement.

But, yes… in the fullness of time. Maybe… let’s call it November. That gives you another 2 quarter’s worth of shocking data revenues.

Meanwhile, Ed, and everyone else using o2 … thanks for coming 🙂

  1. When I cancelled my O2 account (to switch to Three’s x-series) I was offered “unlimited” data for a tenner a month as long as I had a tariff of £30 a month or more. It was put to me as though it’s a standard deal, but obviously it’s just a retensions thing as it’s never appeared on their website.
