Oui, bon, bon: Paris here we come…

I don’t do much in the way of French. I stopped learning it actively when I was about 14, however I did a fairly passable job of it. The learning wasn’t helped much by the fact that whenever the French teacher used to go round the class picking on each of us to ask us what we liked, the default answer was always

J’aime le pizza

.

It’s a valid answer, you know. But after about 6 months of this, the French teacher began to get more and more annoyed. Eventually she left. Stress, we were told.

I can do a fairly passable..

Oui, bon, bon

, which, if said in the right light, at the right time, might, just for a bilisecond, make you think, ‘oh, that guy is a native’.

S’alright for us Scottish. There’s an auld alliance between them and the French. Goes back to lobbing heads off. And Bonny Prince Charlie.

I’m off to Paris to do some meetings — just for the day. So if you are reading this on Friday in Paris, wave. I might be passing by. Look for the guy in the shocking three piece pinstripe.

I’m taking my Nokia N93. I’m going to see if I can spot any interesting Parisian mobile things.

  • Ewan, you should have had Echotranslator on your phone for your trip! This was the best application I saw at 3GSM. Check out http://www.echotranslator.com.
