Jaiku isn’t rivalled by Twitter, Jaiku flattens Twitter

Just a quick, slightly anal point, on Kristen’s opening description:

Jaiku is Twitter’s most relevant rival, and I can clearly see why.

I think the Jaiku client completely and totally sets Jaiku out on its own.

Texting, in this context, is totally last century. It needs to be an app on your phone. That’s the way ahead. I don’t want to arse around opening up my text messaging menu. No. I want to cut directly to the app and do my picoblog there and then; what’s more I also want my location to change dynamically as I move in and out of cells.

Add in commenting features and now you’re really talking. It’s like how Facebook and MySpace want to be. Yes, get me some Jaiku shares. My kingdom for a billion dollar Jaiku stake!

As more and more people get Jaiku on to their handsets, it’s going to be exciting to see how it performs and how it integrates into society. Fascinating.

I am already experiencing a sense of loss at one of my colleagues not using Jaiku for this weekend…. totally interesting experience.

  • When you ‘name’ a picocell, that’s just for you rather than all Jaiku users who connect within the cell?
So everyone needs to maintain their own database?

I’ve signed up (in anticipation of an S60 phone, one day…) but can’t find you (as ewanmacleod) to add as a contact. Maybe you have to be connected?

  • Well I don’t quite know HeavyLight — when I swapped usernames Jaiku still remembered the locations I’d ‘named’ — but that could be because I still had the application on my phone. I’ve emailed the Jaiku guys to ask!
