Text a taxi service launched in Malaysia

Sometimes the simplest systems are the best….

Link: SMS taxi service launched

Under the service, passengers can ask for a taxi pick-up by sending their addresses to a message centre via the SMS number 33030.

The SMS will then be recorded and a request sent out via radio to all the taxis in the vicinity.

Putrajaya Berhad public transport cooperative chairman Zakuan Harun said passengers could expect a reply to their SMS within 10 seconds.

“If there is a taxi available, an SMS will be sent out to them informing them of their taxi number as well as the time it will need to reach their house or address.

Love it. Just text and bish, bash, bosh, you’re assigned a taxi. Brilliant. I still have to pick up the TELEPHONE to call a cab here in Britain. Come on that’s 19th century technology! Totally stupid. I’d much rather text my address…

  1. That system’s been in place here in Brisbane for quite some time. It’s great for when you’re out on the town, because you can save the SMS with your details in your phone’s “Drafts” and never have to worry about slurring over the phone to a taxi company operator at 3am again!

  2. I am a final year student and would like to create a similar system as my final year project. Where can i get information and help on what to do?

    Thanks
