As well as privately speculating on how T-Mobile is getting on with their N95s, I am also wondering how Three is getting on with it’s £5/month unlimited data service.

I am principally interested as to how it’s playing with the masses. I shall pop into a Three store sometime soon and ask’em. Or maybe even observe some other customers.

I just don’t know how the wo/man on the street is reacting to unlimited data. Positively, I’d hope. I think Three’s strategy of always including SKype, Yahoo, Windows Live and eBay logos wherever you see X-Series or their £5/month offer, is a good’un. Consumers can easily identify with those. In contrast, T-Mobile are just using a handset with a Google logo and search box on the screen. I think that also gets the message across too.

  • A couple of points from the Skype team:

    1. Three works with the internet companies like us to make sure the handsets have these applications preloaded or easily downloaded, and spends a lot of effort making sure the user experience is good.

    2. Have a look at T-Mobile’s fair use policy:

“We do not permit use of this service to provide modem access for a computer or for peer to peer file sharing, internet phone calls or instant messaging”

You don’t need 1GB of data for unlimited Google searching on a mobile :)

  • Got my E65 in the post today from three. VERY impressed with the handset. Now I have the fun game of getting my mobile number ported over from O2 to three, once that is done I will let you know what I think of the service :)

Rang three customer services earlier, one plus is that they speak english far better now ;)

  • not sure if I’m a NorMob or a TechMob, but I’m hoping T-Mobile will respond (as in drop their own) pricing in response to 3’s fiver offer, and Orange belatedly arriving at the party on eight quid unlimited data browsing.

However my beef is that T-Mobile must be fairly confident on shifting their N95s as their e-shop has doubled the price from GBP30 to GBP60 (granted on a Flext 35 + web n walk max tariff) in the last 2 weeks. This being after I got so excited into switching from the MDA Vario II (HTC Tytn).

Is this the arrival of easyjet/ebay dynamic pricing ?….

  • BE VIVILANT! Check your bill after sending large emails - I got charged over £12 for ONE email, because it seems the x-series add on (which is what this is) isn’t configured properly. At first, they’ll try and wiggle and say email is seperate, but I’ve been through the small print with a fine tooth comb and they now concede they owe me a refund and many apologies!

  • Sorry to post this on two posts, but I noticed that this month, I had a counter which started at 10240kb. My x-series is still active and I’m only 15 days into the new month, but I noticed that the counter drained to zero yesterday (heavy use of google maps!) and then I got charged 24p.
I called and asked why, what with having x-series active.
(After a long hold “I must check these details further” - you know the kind of thing!) he came back and said the allowance was not 1 GigaBYTE but one gigaBIT! But even then, google tells me that’s 131072k, and I certainly didn’t use that…I’ve not even mobilcasted yet!
I’ll let you know when the bill comes and I’ve been able to argue…it could just be a glitch on my account, but meantime, just keep an eye on your own bills.
