Sun is hoping to attract handset makers and cellular carriers by offering a new version of Java, JavaFX, in tandem with a scripting language that will enable designers of interactive Web sites to create content that can be easily distributed by a variety of devices - like personal computers, cellphones and set-top boxes - without having to customize for each environment.
Sun’s announcement Tuesday was timed to coincide with JavaOne, the company’s annual conference for software developers, which is being held here this week.

Well, anything that helps increase competition and innovation is a good thing. I’ll take a closer look at JavaFX as time progresses and see what I make of it.
