ViaTalk, the US broadband phone company, have launched a new service — ViaTalk Free Connect — which works similarly to Jajah.

Simply visit www.viatalkfree.com, type in your phone number — and a number to call — and ViaTalk will ring you and then connect you. No charges as they’re calling both parties. Very cool.

It’s free for 10 minutes.

ViaTalk is soliciting feedback or suggestions from all users of the service once they’ve completed their call.

This is a very useful way of encouraging non-geeks to get stuck in and to try out VOIP.

I’m not quite sure what happens at the end of 10 minutes though — perhaps you get a ‘thank you for trying out ViaTalk Free’ and then you are disconnected? If you’re in the US/Canada with a spare few minutes, perhaps you could give it a go?
