Judges on an Indian music talent show are less than impressed with their voting audiences who use text messaging to decide on who stays and who goes. Generally speaking, the audience selects the final two hopefuls who’re about to be chucked, then the judges are asked to cast a vote. Not so with this particular television show — the audience decide it all — that’s winding up the judges big time — but that’s popular opinion for you.

The business of SMS is playing havoc and the audience based on the SMS based voting for a candidate chucks out the singers whose voice is found acceptable to the judges. Therefore Javed Akhtar expressed an apprehension whether this SMS based voting system should become the deciding factor in allowing or removing a contestant from the programme.
