IDC have just launched a recent report on the Indian mobile industry….

The study indicates that typically, a mobile handset is used for 56 minutes a day for voice communication — an increase of 5 minutes over the 51 minutes per day a year ago.

In addition, SMS usage has continued to increase in last 3 years. Today, the average SMS user sends 8 SMSes a day. This overall increase in SMS usage can be attributed to tariff charges and widespread usage of SMS by TV shows’ public opinion polls — which has been increasing year-on-year.
