SMS Text News Unlimited Drinks is coming home to London!
I first decided to put on an Unlimited Drinks event for two main reasons:
1. To thank you, the reading audience, for your attention and support
2. To create a good atmosphere for networking for those working across the mobile phone industry -- that is: No loud music, no stupid queues at unstaffed bars and no weirdos at the event talking rubbish.
Since the first London event earlier this year, I've hosted an event in Los Angeles and most recently in Tel Aviv, but now, it being December shortly, I thought it would be nice to put on an end-of-year Unlimited Drinks.
I didn't want it to interfere with the heavy social networking that goes on across December (Have you started getting invitations for Christmas parties yet?), I selected December 3rd as the date. Now that's a Monday, so I know that's slightly inconvenient for some -- but I wanted to avoid clashing with the huge amount of other activities about to commence throughout December.
We're back at the Number3Bar on New Burlington Street, just off Regent Street. Drinks are, predictably, unlimited -- but with a fair use policy. I've bought out the bar's stock of beer and wine plus a load -- a veritable LOAD -- of food. I'm going to make sure that the food gets around a bit more this time too.
Here's how it works: If you'd like to meet with other smart mobile people and you work in and around the mobile industry (or you simply have a passion for mobile), Unlimited Drinks is for you.
I strictly control the guest list with the aid of some extremely capable bouncers who stand outside glaring in a satisfying manner. I do this, because it winds me up at other events I've attended when I find that 75% of the attendees don't give a toss about the mobile industry at all.
If you'd like to come along and you've something to contribute, drop me a note (details below) and I will put you on the guest list. If you'd like to bring a few colleagues -- that's fine -- do let me know their names too, so I can get them on the list, but please make sure that they are classified as good'uns.
The event starts at 6pm and goes on until very late. And that's it. There's no presentations, no speeches, just networking, a good fast bar and some nice food. Come for 30 minutes, come for the whole evening, it's up to you.
Typically speaking, I'm usually standing near the front door clad in an outrageous pinstripe (for identification purposes) and I will be demanding a business card from each attendee -- a memory aid so I can write the review the next day with a degree of reliability. (I like to try and write a bit about each attendee here on the site).
I've been working on the concept of creating a goodie bag filled with stuff -- free subscriptions, hardware (wouldn't it be great to give every attendee a new handset?) and whilst I've initially had some wicked responses from companies I've spoken to, I don't know if they'll actually be able to deliver. If you've any ideas for what could be included in a goodie bag, would you let me know?

With the market saying 'no' to Nokia's Ovi Store, what do you think can be done to change this?
