STOP PRESS! The N82 preserves data during firmware upgrade!

That headline is meant to be read out loud by a tongue-in-cheek unimpressed Stephen Colbert.

Link N82 Preserves Data During Firmware Upgrade

The first firmware update for the N82 is going to have a subtle change we’ve been looking for; the preservation of User Data (writes Kevin at the S60 blog). The plan is that when you do upgrade the firmware, your applications and settings will remain intact . Three caveats; 1) you should still back up your data first; 2) It’s only for the N82; 3) you’ll need to wait a bit longer for the first N82 firmware upgrade to arrive.

I think it’s plain ridiculous that we’ve had to wait ’til the N82 has arrived before Nokia have managed to deliver a device that doesn’t break itself (from a consumer perspective) when you try and upgrade it.

Is this how far we have come? We only now have a phone that updates without arse.

We’re moving in the right direction, anyway…

  • Hopefully they will soon introduce this across the line of N Series handsets!
