Tendulkar denies sending mythical text message

Link: Tendulkar denies sending SMS to Pawar

Sachin Tendulkar has denied sending an SMS to BCCI chief Sharad Pawar requesting that the tour of Australia be suspended until the ICC lifts the ban on Harbhajan Singh.

“Sachin Tendulkar has not sent any SMS to Pawar on this issue. He had called up to clarify this point,” BCCI vice President Rajiv Shukla said.

Are you a Cricket fan? Me, I quite enjoy it — and I used to be a pretty good batsman and bowler (didn’t enjoy standing around much as a fielder though). This issue has been going on for a good few days now. I’ve been reading the stories as they’ve been coming flying in and I reckoned I should document the issue.

If you send someone an email, generally speaking, it can be easily documented. It’s quite ‘easy’ to prove that you sent the mail, particularly if the recipient prints out a copy or takes a screenshot or the like. There’s obviously an authenticity issue — email can be faked — however it’s pretty easy to ‘prove’ whether you did send a mail. If you need to clear your name, you can invite journalists to review your sent items (er, that is, if you haven’t already deleted the mail…) or you can even contact your ISP to obtain proof of whether your account sent something.

Via text message? Well it’s a totally different ball game (no pun). There’s next to no way of knowing whether text messages were sent or not unless you want to start getting hold of court orders to force your mobile operator to look deep into its logs to verify or refute a particular issue.

There must be a case of someone, somewhere, suing another person because of what was allegedly written in a text message…
