Every consumer will have two phones…
So reckons Rob Glaser of Real Networks…
Link: 2 phones for everyone—if industry can’t get its act together
No single phone can do everything easily, he said, which is why the public will be driven to carry multiple devices. “Mobile penetration won’t stop at 100 percent,” he told the crowd. “It will go to 200 percent because the notion of a single device that does it all isn’t the way (the market is) going to go.”
The iPhone does a pretty good job of it, does it not?
Also, the camera or video isn’t a patch on Nokia’s N-range.

I don’t think he’s correct. Many devices are getting closer all the time to doing just what most people need. I DO think though that the capability of having a second number on the same handset might get more appealing, particularly as many people end up using their personal mobile for work (if on to be contactable by the office) and it gets increasingly important to know which call *not* to answer on a Sunday!
Posted by MarkW on February 20th, 2008 at 10:24 am.Havin two numbers on one phone would indeed be excellent but having (at one point) had to suffer three phones at once (long story) i couldn’t cope.
Posted by Pashion on February 20th, 2008 at 1:09 pm.I like to have one phone for everythin and i hate to fuel the iPhone/Symbian argument but the nSeries succeeds in many more ways than it fails, unlike iPhone which is made of fail.
Eh, sounds like hooey to me. There’s no need for most people to have two phones. Those that have two do because of a work/personal life seperation. Not every person needs that in their job, hence this is bunk.

Posted by Antoine of MMM on February 20th, 2008 at 2:53 pm.I find carrying 2 phones a real pain. I even tried taping them back to back but that didnt work either. What I really want is a phone that can handle 2 numbers but with 1 address book, and allow me to switch off / divert different numbers at different times.
Posted by Julian on February 20th, 2008 at 6:54 pm.I was doing the two phones things for a while (a QWERTY and a Camera/video phone) but at the end of the day, it’s a pain in the arse. I just want ONE phone and for better or worse, the Nokia N95 is my phone.
