It looks like Xohm is about to be reborn. According to The Street, chipmaker Intel will be breathing new life into WiMax with a $2 billion funding injection.

After reports last month that Clearwire and Sprint were talking again about setting up a joint venture, it looks like the US’ WiMax network could finally be back on its feet again, with The Street suggesting that the new company could be announced within a matter of days, combining Clearwire and Sprint’s licences.

After all the upheaval at Sprint and all the to-ing and fro-ing over WiMax, hopefully this will prove the jumpstart that will get the network off the ground and if we start seeing some WiMax devices coming along too, so much the better.
