Obama’s texting campaign gives campaign a push

More and more, the use of texting is going to seriously impact results. I’m sure of it. We just haven’t seen any concrete examples as yet. This story from ABC alludes to the possibility of a direct effect from texting to ‘get out the vote’.

“They’ve been using [texting] to get out the vote, which is incredibly smart because it gives people a way to take immediate political action,” says Julie Germany, director of the Institute for Politics, Democracy and the Internet. “It’s just what mobile technology is suited for.”

One Response to “Obama’s texting campaign gives campaign a push”

  • My first reaction before I read the article was “What, somebody gets a ‘vote Obama’ text so the do it?” but then I actually read it and thought that it was very smart to mass text the base of supporters to remind them to vote and assist them in finding a polling station. This seems like something that would appeal much more to younger voters, and Obama would seem to be the one who could most benefit from this as compared to the 71 year old McCain who’s base probably skews older. It seems impossible to measure how this will ultimately effect the race but we’ll see.
