Recommend a new PDA/Phone
SMS Text News reader Mark sent me this note below. He’s in the market for a new PDA/Phone and looking for suggestions:
My windows mobile pda (the t-mobile vario II) has moved on from being just generally awful to being openly hostile, resetting itself several times a day so it’s time to finally move on, hopefully on to better things….
Can you recommend any PDA/phone right now?
The spec is
- phone
- agenda
- address book
- surf the net
- and ooh… everything
- would prefer 640×480 resolution
Do you have any ideas? (I suggested taking a look at the iPhone…)

Go for a N95 8gb . Te ultimate smartphone of the moment.

I’ve been through Palms, iPAQs, you name it - an S60 phone has turned out to be the best fit. The rest are languishing in drawers.

Is he gay?
Posted by MarkTMOnkey on February 8th, 2008 at 5:31 pm.I’d reccomend an e61i. I have an e61 on T-Mobile now with t-zones, and everything is peachy. The e61i is just a bit sturdier and has a camera.
The downside to these phones is that they do not have full VGA, and neither have an audio port to speak of. You’re stuck using bluetooth or a beastly adapter.
If you’re willing to pay for it, you could import an Ogo. But not even the UK has those yet.
PS. Does anybody here have access to an Ogo?

Posted by Tabor on February 8th, 2008 at 6:49 pm.I have both an iPhone and N95 (classic) and can honestly recommend either (or both). If you need to use your PDA/Phone for lots of text input such as WP or Spreadsheets etc… I can recommend the N95 (either variant) with an iGO Stowaway UItra-Slim Keyboard. It is Bluetooth and so no wires to bother with, supports the N95 nicely and draws astonishing stares from all the Laptop users when you set it up on the meeting/boardroom table. First you get quaint stares, but these soon change to looks of envy as you set up in seconds while they wait minutes for their lappy to run up Windows or whatever.
If Apple ever open up their Bluetooth to allow such devices (other than just headphones) then I would recommend the iPhone over the N95 in that respect.
I have been on the search for converged devices that work well enough to use practically - these two are it as of today. Much of the other stuff is just so much fluff and bluster.
