Tracking Stuff in Mobile

Daily news and opinion for 250,000 industry executives and mobile fanatics.

Traffic surges

Throughout Mobile World Congress, we’ve been getting regular traffic surges daily that have been causing havoc with our infrastructure here at SMS Text News. The site runs on a quad core super dooper dedicated server with oodles of RAM and half a terabyte of disk space… which, together with some advanced wordpress caching and MySQL tuning is nigh on powerless when hundreds of folk hit the site, simultaneously and continually, for sustained periods. There’s a bug somewhere, running away with itself, that causes MySQL to tank. A restart cures it, but it’s not good enough. We’ll have a solution shortly — I’m looking at some load balanced options at the moment.

Thanks for your patience!
