80,000 3G homes in the UK

This story
caught my attention in the Telegraph this morning.

“3G homes?” I thought, “Geez, I’ve really missed this one… could mobile operators be installing 7.2 meg picocells in homes across the UK?”

Well, no. Turns out that a “3G” home isn’t quite what I was thinking:

More than 80,000 homes in Britain are housing three generations of the same family due to a lack of money.

Many of the so-called “3G” homes are the result of people retiring with insufficient pensions, forcing them to sell their homes to pay for their retirement, says a study by Prudential, the financial services group.

Right. So, no 7.2 meg picocells…
