I picked up this
Continue ReadingZygoHubs formally launched recently and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Whilst Twitter is a great mobile social networking tool, sometimes — more often than not — I find I want to connect with a team of people privately and immediately. That’s where Zygo comes in. ZygoHubs allows anyone [...]
Continue ReadingI’m working on a piece at the moment summarising my experiences at the LG Secret blogger launch party on Friday. It was a fascinating day and an excellent opportunity to sit and talk with LG people about the industry.
One point I wanted to document was Jeremy Newing, the LG UK Marketing Director. As well [...]
After flirting with mobile VoIP for a while, Skype looks like it’s about to get properly stuck in. The company’s announced that it’s brought out a beta version of the Skype client for “50 of the most popular Java-enabled mobile phones from Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson”.
All the usual features are enabled - chat, [...]
It’s not going to get you any admiring glances if you leave it on a table in the pub, but at £5 with no strings, Asda’s latest mobile phone deal will take some beating.
The supermarket behemoth is knocking out four handset models for the bargain price of £5 - one Nokia and three Sagems [...]
If the rumours are true, it looks like RIM is delaying the introduction of its latest 3G model for AT&T. Depending on who you listen to, it’s either because the BlackBerry in question has power issues, or because RIM doesn’t want to go head to head with Apple’s mooted June launch for the 3G iPhone. [...]

Continue ReadingI thought I should check out Mobyko once more. It’s been a while since I’ve done the virtual equivalent of a nose by the shop window and a poke around inside.
Mobyko is a must-use service for, principally, backing up your handset contacts. They also offer backup of texts and MMS content to your [...]
SMS Text News reader Kevin caught me online this afternoon on Skype (my username is ewanjmacleod — add me!) and asked me if I had any idea where he could get a semi-up-to-date and comprehensive list of mobile handsets.
I started thinking. Hmm… I don’t *actually* know of a comprehensive source. [...]
I popped down to the Coach and Horses Pub in Greek Street, Soho, this morning, at the behest of SMS Text News contributor, James Whatley.
“Come down to the Tuttle Club,” he texted me, “It’s great, lots of cool people.”
Whilst it’s not a mobile event per se, I thought I’d give it a go. [...]
Nokia are good at getting this sort of thing together:

Film director Spike Lee and Nokia will create a user-generated short movie for mobile phones, which will premiere in Los Angeles this autumn, says the International Herald Tribune. Amateur film-makers will be asked to send in video clips, each a [...]
Or are you just pleased to see me?
Neon-touch navigation. That’s what the new LG Secret is sporting, amongst other goodies — including, apparently, the thinnest 5 megapixel handset on the planet, 116 grams, 120 frames per second at 320×240 and 30 frames per second at 640×480. Quad band, carbon fibre body… iiiinteresting. [...]
Rita over at Symbian Guru is Jaiku-crowdsourcing a feature she’s working on entitled ‘Did the N95 kill Nokia or revive it?’ The question really caught my attention — and, by the looks of it, a heckuvalot of others. Check out some of the essays she’s had in response to her question on her [...]
Continue ReadingLooks like the Dish Network conundrum is finally settled - the company is indeed getting into the mobile TV game, after announcing it’s teaming up with Alcatel-Lucent to test a system based on the DVB-SH standard.
The test looks like it’s just a small one without any consumers involved - according to the pair, the trial [...]
Vodafone has decided to team up with China Mobile and Japanese operator Softbank - formerly Vodafone’s Japanese arm - to create a new lab charged with developing new tech, services and applications.
Unsuprisingly, it’s web based services that will receive the bulk of the attention, including widgets that should be compatible with any handset or operating [...]
It looks like things are getting worse before they get better chez Motorola. It’s just put out the latest set of results for its mobile devices division and there’s all the bad news expected plus a bit more for good measure - sales were down 39 percent year-on-year, losses were up and the company sold [...]
Continue ReadingA friend of mine sent me a picture message tonight.
My mistake was to be using my sim card in an iPhone at the time.
As a result I’ve got to go through all that bullshit of ‘visit this URL within 14 days’, and ‘type in your phone number and this stupidly annoyingly difficult to remember password [...]
I’m using Nimbuzz all day at the moment from my Nokia E90 to help me stay connected across Skype and every other IM service I use (Gtalk, MSN, Yahoo and so on).
The Skype calling integration is a piece of genius. Try it out. It works very similar to the 3UK Skypephone [...]
I’m going to be staring very directly at the LG UK Marketing Director, Jeremy Newing, LG Secret launch tomorrow (today, if you’re reading this on Friday). The device has a 5 megapixel camera, it’s ultra slim — it looks to me like LG have done-it-again: Produced a brilliant consumer handset.
I just wonder [...]
Saw the E71 earlier today. It looks genius. The team who’re playing with it reckon it is just brilliant.
Perhaps this is what the Nokia eager-beavers have been doing when their counterparts have been churning out minor updates.
iPhone sized. Qwerty keyboard. (Stefan had a pic of it back in Jan). [...]
You MUST play this trick on your Apple iPhone friends.
I saw it happen almost live this evening. Whatleydude, (”James Whatley, SMS Text News contributor”), was behind it. I’m not sure if it was his idea, but it was priceless to see the reality.
We were with a global mobile operator representative. A fixer. [...]
I met the chaps from Buzzd at the hip’n’happening Accel Ventures CTIA party and thoroughly enjoyed their perspective on both the marketplace and what they were looking to do.
Buzzd is a location-based cityguide and social network based around the mobile. They just knocked up a super round of funding, funnily enough, not [...]
Dr Todd Rosengart, accomplished physician and entrepreneur, is MD & Co-Founder of Vitals, a leading doctor evaluation site.
I caught hold of Dr Todd’s news release today about handsets and allergies. Well, actually, anything technical and electrical. Here, have a read:
For those already suffering from common allergies, studies also suggest that cell [...]
Since when did ShoZu have a desktop edition?
Since now. Cool!
Only found out today. I just visited the ShoZu site this afternoon to check if they offer support for LG handsets (I’m off to the launch of the new Chocolate/Shine successor tomorrow — expect updates).
Smart idea, this.
Conveniently it’s [...]
