Do we thank Philippe Kahn, ex CEO of Borland, for the camera phone?

This mobile camera phone buying guide by CNET Asia reckons that the concept for the camera-phone belongs to Philippe Kahn, former CEO of Borland.

Now, all well and good. But I tell you, I was sat wating a video-capable mobile phone (and, obviously, a camera-capable handset) years ago. Years ago.

What about you? When you saw your first camera-phone, did you think ‘WOW, I’d never have thought about that, what a cool idea?’

Here’s the para that caught my eye:

Camera-phones, like most mobile technology, have come a long way in a very short space of time. The concept of the camera-phone has been credited to Philippe Kahn, former CEO of software developer Borland, who hatched his idea while waiting impatiently for his daughter’s birth with a camera and a phone and a desire to combine them to share the experience with the rest of his family.

Kahn actually made it happen, eh? Good man. I wonder what handset he uses today?

Here’s his Wikipedia profile.
