David Heath contacted me today. He’s authoring a book at the moment and needs some assistance from the mobile community. I was sure there would be quite a lot of aggregators, developers and mobile experts who would be able to help. I asked if I could put his enquiry out to the [...]
Continue ReadingOk, so after the mild trauma of trying to find out how to register for The Cloud’s unlimited account (it looks like they’ve updated their sign-up pages now to make it much clearer), I finally have an account.
I’m pretty much delighted. £11.99 a month to use almost any wireless hotspot you’d care to [...]
That is me now installed using The Cloud’s wireless service here in the High Street of Billericay. Only a few weird looks so far.
Continue ReadingGot this from the Vonage newsletter this afternoon. They’ll shortly be launching this USB ‘v-phone’ device. Looks interesting. Here’s what the text says:
The new Vonage V-Phone is so small it fits on your keychain yet it can turn any PC or laptop into a fully functional Vonage telephone.
It’s easy to use with absolutely no [...]
I’ve had a Vonage subscription since they launched it the UK. I use it primarily to redirect calls - because, to date, that’s all it’s been good for.
I’ve tried taking calls on it from clients. Without fail, everything is good for about 20 seconds before the client starts saying ‘whaaa…? Err you… What? You [...]
And so while yesterday I posted a note about the medium of text saving lives with the 14 year old kidnapped girl using it to contact her mum - today an opposite story :/
A lorry driver crashed into and killed a mother of two apparently whilst he was reading a text message.
How long will this be the domain of the uber geek?
I wonder. I can potentially see the younger generations setting up their own mobile based servers like they do their myspace profiles at the moment.
Gotta drive into London shortly. Gonna be using my ShopQwik Congestion Charge service! :D I’ll take some screenshots!
Continue ReadingThe broadband’s back.
Any explanation from Bulldog for the last 8 day’s worth of dead service?
Nope.
I asked the guy who phoned to give us the good news but he either didn’t know, didn’t care or didn’t want to say.
Thus I’m back.
So last week I was off on one about how mobile data is, effectively, a useful method of connecting to the internet (data card, bluetooth via mobile and so on), but really, you need a Broadband connection if I want to do anything meaningful.
While I believe that this is still very much the [...]
Got this in through the personal shopper form.
If you or a colleague can help, let me know, and I will put you in touch.
We are authorized Distributors for mobile phone for the kingdom of Nepal. We are currently dealing GSM mobile phone and willing to deal CDMA mobile phone working in network 2000 [...]
Responses from me to some anonymous tipsters.
A lot of the tips sent in are clearly written when folk are drunk (”an I told em it was rubbish an (someone) said I was a tw*t”).
Others appear highly accurate yet totally incendiary. I’m still not quite clear on what to do with those. Do I [...]
Three Brand suffering difficulties Originally uploaded by ew4n.
When Hutchison Whampoa purchased Superdrug via the Asian retailer Watson’s (which they also own), I thought it was a rather wicked way of getting their Three mobile network an immediate presence on the British High Street, since Superdrug has [...]
Three implements down-and-dirty brand push Originally uploaded by ew4n.
Passed this in Billericay High Street….
Yes, I’d love to buy a phone from your shitty looking stall.
For the attention of every reader. I posted a note the other day saying that the MobileYouth 2006 report had been released by Portio Research. I did a 3 line summary and linked to the Portio site for anyone interested in more information or ordering.
I did so because I had a [...]
Got the mail today from Reporo announcing the availability of their newly updated service — and, by
default, their entry into the fast growing mobile instant messaging marketplace. Look out everyone.
Those of you that have checked out Reporo before will know it as a rather good mobile shopping service — I’ve used it many times [...]
The London Times has more details on yesterday’s Ofcom
announcement.
(Thank’s Alex)
Techdirt on .mobi’s latest plan: give us more cash.
Deary me.
UK premium call/text regulator ICSTIS took on Ericsson, thus: Ericsson IPX AB were fined £500 and issued with a formal reprimand. In addition, access to the service was barred until it complies with the ICSTIS Code of Practice.Keep it up, ICTIS!
(Thanks Alex)
Well I think I should let this speak for itself.
Continue ReadingJames posted a comment here about Broadtexter. He noted that they don’t currently provide service in the UK and asked if anyone would like to work on a similar concept with him.
Kudos to James.
He makes a key point. What are we playing at?
What happened to rapid, fun and innovating UK text mobile [...]
So I still don’t have internet access. At 6pmish on Sunday, my DSL provider, it seems, lost the record of my phone number.
We don’t officially exist for some reason. Ergo no internet. They are of course ‘working on it.’
I’m using my brother’s house during the day because, at the moment, my business day [...]
So I followed a bit of the Steve Jobs presentation this afternoon. I think I knew it would contain nothing about an iPhone but, you know, I enjoyed a few moments of excitement leading up to today — just in case.
So bring on 2007.
I love it! Alex came across this one introduced by Swiftcover.

So I understand everything is live.com now, right?
