Virgin Mobile have just announced a fixed-price per day of 30p for pay-as-you-go (albeit post-paid) data and unlimited use.
For fun, let’s remind ourselves of the definition of ‘unlimited’:
un-lim-it-ed [adjective]
1. not limited; unrestricted; unconfined: unlimited trade.
2. boundless; infinite; vast: the unlimited skies.
3. without any qualification or exception; unconditional.
Wow… Infinite, unrestricted data… no conditions? For 30p a [...]

Pete’s updated MobileMeg. It’s looking good. I am a particular fan of his rather comprehensive table that breaks down the data rates at all UK MNOs.
Useful!
Here’s the note from Pete:
Hi all,
Just a quick update, to let you know about the new release of MobileMeg.
As you’ll probably remember, the aim is to publish [...]

Continue ReadingI’m pleased to report that I’m now on a Vodafone price plan that includes ‘unlimited’ fair use policy data.
That’s my primary handset.
My other handset is a Blackberry.
And oh boy, I’m being royally nailed. Nailed to the wall. Here’s a snapshot.
I blew just under 50 quid last month using my Blackberry.

It looks like the EC’s threats of mandatory cuts to the cost of roaming data and SMS are starting to put the frighteners on some operators. After EC Commissioner Viviane Reding gave the networks two weeks to cut costs before regulation reared its ugly head, T-Mobile looks like it’s already buckled.
It’s announced that from the [...]
It looks like T-Mobile taken Apple boss Steve Jobs’ promise the 3G iPhone will be half as cheap as its predecessor and run with it - the operator will be selling the new device to its German subscribers for as little as €1, according to Reuters.
Obviously, for that kind of price, customers will be [...]

So here I am again commenting on Orange and data.
Whilst we’ve had some educational fireworks with Vodafone over the past few days, at least it works. At least the company is committed to mobile data. At least they’re talking about it — more than that, they’re advertising the hell out of it.
Orange, on the [...]
Every time I think of the money I’ve spunked using data on Vodafone UK, my heart races faster.
Throughout the weekend and early this week, I’ve been saying to myself, ‘What’s changed? Here we are, 2008 and I’m *still* being nailed for data on a per megabyte basis?’
Then I thought back to the chump-campaign we ran [...]
Who really wants to be able to use mobile phones on planes? It seems not as many of us as the airlines might be hoping, according to a new survey commissioned by Yahoo. 3G could potentially kill off wi-fi, according to analysts Infonetics Research, as more and more of us use mobile broadband data cards rather than the wireless hotspots provided by coffee shops and the like as the service becomes “more available, more affordable, and a higher performance choice”
Infonetics says that sales of mobile data cards will [...]
